On September 25, 2026, OpenAI introduced security history in ChatGPT. It gives people who use several devices a record to consult when they want to understand recent activity on their account.

What the record contains

Events include sign-ins, sign-outs, and changes to multi-factor authentication, passkeys, and other security settings. Time, location, and device details may appear. Some details are approximate or unavailable, so an unfamiliar location alone is insufficient evidence of a compromised account.

Where to start

On the web, open Settings, then Security and login, and choose Security history. Compare event times with the devices you actually used. If activity remains unfamiliar, follow the official account-security guidance and review your authentication methods.

How to use the information

Treat the history as evidence to investigate. After replacing a phone, for example, compare the new sign-in with your setup session. Keep the event time and device details together when documenting a concern; a location screenshot without context can be misleading.
