On October 22, 2026, OpenAI made the Decisions API generally available. Built with GPT-6 Luna, it focuses on bounded decisions such as classifying an input, choosing a next step, or assigning a score.

Define allowed answers

Provide text, images, or structured data and request a probability, choice, or score. It suits clearly specified decisions inside a workflow. Broad research or free-form drafting should not automatically move to this interface simply because it emphasizes speed.

Changes since beta

Following the October 6 beta, the release adds native JSON input, caching for shared context, images in individual question instructions, and up to 400 questions per request—twice the earlier limit. Native GPT-Live integration and US and EU inference residency are also part of the expanded offering.

Evaluate the speed claim

OpenAI reports up to 10 times faster decisions than using Luna through Responses. That is not a guarantee for every workload. Test accuracy, low-confidence fallbacks, and end-to-end latency against labeled examples before placing it in a real-time product flow.
