Jogen is a language-practice app built around conversations with AI characters. It supports Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Portuguese, Russian, Thai and Vietnamese. Browse characters, then practice everyday, travel or workplace conversations through text chat or real-time voice calls with supported characters. As of October 23, 2026, the iOS app is available and the Android version is still in preparation.
Start with a language and a character
The official website currently lists 122 AI characters with different backgrounds and speaking styles. Read their introductions and listen to voice samples before choosing a practice partner. Interface and learning languages can be set separately: for example, you can use a Chinese interface while studying Japanese.
Use text and voice for different kinds of practice
Text chat gives you time to assemble a sentence and respond in your own words. You can play character replies aloud and show or hide translations. Pronunciation aids depend on the learning language. If you understand a reply but struggle to answer, listen once and try continuing with a short sentence of your own.
For speaking practice, choose a character marked as supporting calls and use your microphone for a real-time conversation. You can toggle captions, mute the microphone and end the call. Calls are available only for supported characters, and the conversation partner is AI. Notes for the current conversation let you revisit excerpts, vocabulary and available pronunciation annotations.
Try one small scenario first
If you are not sure what to say, make the first session one everyday task. These are practice suggestions rather than a preset course in the app:
- Choose a goal: order a drink, ask for directions to a station, or explain today’s plans to a colleague.
- Complete a short exchange using phrases you know. Open the translation or play the audio when needed.
- Choose one or two expressions to use again, then repeat the scenario with a different detail.
Downloads, sign-in and points
Jogen is free to download, and you can browse characters and scenarios without signing in. AI conversations and live calls require sign-in, an internet connection and points. Points are sold as one-time in-app purchases rather than auto-renewing subscriptions. Check the app for current prices, point usage and whether a character supports calls.
Where to get Jogen
The iOS app is available on the App Store; the official website lists Android as coming soon. The website’s language and character gallery helps you explore partners before using conversation features in the app. Characters are fictional AI, and the app is intended for ages 13 and older. Voice calls require microphone permission, and AI features explain data handling and request consent before use.
