On October 15, 2026, OpenAI introduced the Rosalind Academic Plan. Eligible US university labs can apply for up to 30 ChatGPT Business Standard seats at no seat cost for up to 12 months. GPT-Rosalind access remains subject to trusted-access approval.
Resources for research
GPT-Rosalind is a life-sciences model used with specialized tools in Rosalind Workbench. The news is the sponsorship program, not a claim that it replaces researchers or validates a clinical result, drug, or scientific breakthrough.
Who applies
A principal investigator or lab lead applies on behalf of the lab and completes institutional, identity, and research-use checks. Universities with an OpenAI Enterprise agreement should use their existing institutional process. Applying does not immediately activate access, and API access is not included.
Define the intended work
Describe the literature, analysis, or collaboration tasks and check institutional data permissions. OpenAI says research data in the plan is not used for training by default. Researchers still need to verify outputs, sources, and experimental evidence; sponsored seats are not a quality guarantee.
