OpenAI introduced GPT-6.1 Sol on September 29, 2026, one week after GPT-6 Sol. It targets demanding everyday work, including coding, document understanding, computer use, and multi-step business workflows.

Compare equivalent prices

At launch, standard API pricing for prompts up to 272K input tokens was $2 per million input tokens, $0.10 for cached input, and $10 for output. Standard input and output rates are one-fifth of Astra’s. That comparison is not a guarantee of an 80% reduction in every task’s total bill: reasoning and tools also affect cost.

Where it is available

The API identifier is gpt-6.1-sol; use Responses for tool calling. The Work and Codex rollout starts with Pro and expands to other eligible plans, with workspace model permissions still applying. This release is distinct from the later GPT-6 update to Chat.

Evaluate your own workload

OpenAI reports near-Astra results on several evaluations. Treat those as benchmark findings. Try a small set of previous tasks with known outcomes and compare correctness, completion time, and total cost before changing a production workflow.
