On October 9, 2026, OpenAI introduced Composer predictions in beta. After Codex responds, the message box may suggest a follow-up based on the current conversation.
Accepting is not sending
Press Tab to accept a suggestion, then review or edit it before sending. Acceptance does not send a message or start the suggested work. Check that wording about publishing, external actions, or scope matches your intended instruction.
Beta eligibility and controls
At launch, the beta is for personal ChatGPT Pro users aged 18 or older in supported regions, in the latest Codex desktop app. It supports local and SSH threads with GPT-6 Astra or GPT-6.1 Sol. It is enabled by default; disable Show predictions in the Composer section of General settings.
How usage is counted
Generating suggestions during beta does not consume Codex limits or credits. Messages actually sent, including accepted suggestions, follow normal usage and billing. Treat the feature as an editable draft rather than free execution of the following task.
