On September 29, 2026, OpenAI expanded Codex Cloud around reusable development environments. Teams can prepare and test a setup before new tasks start in isolated workspaces. Cloud work can continue while the user’s computer sleeps.

Prepare once, continue elsewhere

Cloud tasks can be started or continued from desktop, web, and mobile. The important distinction is the execution environment containing repositories, tools, and dependencies. A cloud workspace should not be assumed to contain files that exist only on a personal computer.

Review and security serve different jobs

Code Review helps inspect pull-request summaries, diffs, and findings. Security Cloud is a research preview for scanning connected GitHub repositories or monitoring commits, with findings and proposed patches to review. A completed scan is not evidence that a repair has been applied or merged.

Hosted browsers for developers

Agents API gained computer use in an OpenAI-hosted browser on the same date; applications handle sign-in and website-access approvals. Start with a small change whose tests and diff can be inspected. Repository access, workspace controls, and billing remain relevant to deployment.
